Cultists and Holy Warriors in Feralas

What we are about to report here, may be the most troubling news, we have ever had the misfortune to bring. It proves not only the delusions of grandeur firmly rooted in the hearts and minds of the lesser races, but also the unfailing certainty that these inferior races cannot be trusted to stay loyal to any agreements – even those initiated by themselves.

Yesterday our envoy encountered several Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes and even a few Draenei at the gates of Eldre’Thalas. Recognizing the tabards of the Hand of Nightmares and the Dark Sphere – known criminal cults of Stormwind – our correspondent stayed well out of sight while observing the miscreants. Observing and reporting was necessary, since the presence of these unlawful organizations in Kalimdor is both unwanted and unauthorized. The subsequent appearance of a squadron of the Disciples of Light should maybe have comforted our agent, but for reasons to be explained, this was not the case. But we progress too fast…

The aim of the cultist was apparently to enter Eldre’Thalas in search of a Black Lotus – an herb rather rare in Kalimdor. Apparently some nobleman has fallen ill or under the influence of a poison and is in need of a cure based on the Black Lotus. The Hand of Nightmares and the Dark Sphere had evidently been hired to obtain said herb and the price must have been extraordinary for it warranted the presence of the self-acclaimed prophet and leader of the Hand of Nightmares Zaraj Blackblade himself! Though disguised his presence was revealed when one of his henchmen addressed him by name.

Further observations revealed that the cultists did not intend to find the herb and cure for the victim, but instead to a (obviously corrupt) Minister of the Stormwind Council, who would benefit from the victims demise. Said Minister was not mentioned by name, but it is apparent that we are not to trust any emissaries of the so-called respectable government of Stormwind.

As if the involvement of the Stormwind Council was not enough, several Gnomes was seen collaborating and conversing jovially with the cultists in this scheme. One can only imagine how deep these Gnomes are implicated – and this only seven days after representatives from the Tinker’s Court visited our Circle of Darnassus with offers of friendship and alliances. It would seem that the visits from the Stormwind Council and the Tinker’s Court were merely a ruse to weaken the Kaldorei vigilance. It is a good thing that the agents of the Darnassus Examiner never sleeps, never lets their guard down and are ceaselessly alert.

As stated above the gathering of cultists was interrupted by the arrival of a company of the militia known as The Disciples of Light. One would have believed that these supposedly respectable armed forces would have announced their arrival in Darnassus or at least sent an diplomat to alert our Capitol or their presence, but when our agent returned to Darnassus, he learned that no messengers had been sent at all. The presence of the Disciples was covert and, if our agent had not been there to report it, probably never to be conveyed to the proper authorities of Darnassus. High Chaplain Longhill apparently did not find it the slightest important, relevant or respectful to inform us of their little visit.

Now… one could suspect that the arrival of the Disciples was to apprehend the malefactors from the Hand of Nightmares and the Dark Sphere, but it quickly became apparent that the Disciples was in Feralas in the exact same errand as the cultists. Even face to face with the cultist leader Blackblade, the High Chaplain and her gallants did not recognize him for what he was, but instead started bartering over the sought-after Black Lotus. Whether to distribute the cure or to withhold it from the poor victim is unknown, but we, at the Darnassus Examiner, do not mind speculating. They were probably looking to finance their “holy war” or use the cure as leverage in the Stormwind government to gain additional political power.

It is disappointing -but can we honestly say that it surprises us – that once again our “allies” prove to be more focused on personal gains than the well-being and safety of the realm. The Humans time and time again overstep the boundaries set out in various agreements – sending unannounced military forces into the hearts of our forests – and their corrupt politicians are too busy with empowering themselves to take action. The Gnomes are fickle and erratic half-beings that stroke you with one hand, while the other prepares a strike. We must now realize that they are not to be trusted!

For the sake of diplomacy the Darnassus Examiner plan to present this issue to the Circle of Darnassus and demand that public statements from the Stormwind Council and the Tinker’s Court are requested to explain this incident. Too many questions lie unanswered. Too many secrets…

We will also propose that the patrolling of Feralas is increased. We cannot afford to let the lesser races roam free to exploit our lands even though they are far from our Capitol.

And heed our warning. They are not to be trusted! Stay vigilant, brothers and sisters. The Darnassus Examiner will be watching.
